In this video I draw a short looping animation for my Praxinoscope optical kit. First I make a series of drawings of an old toy robot walking. I then use Adobe Photoshop to create a disc template and position each drawing onto the template. I then print the disc out and insert it into my Praxinoscope to see the animated results.
What is a Praxinoscope?
A praxinoscope is a simple animation device similar to a zoetrope. Invented in 1877, it improved on the zoetrope by replacing the narrow viewing slits with a multi-faceted mirror. When you look at the mirror whilst the outer disc is spinning you see a series of images in rapid succession giving the illusion of motion. Cool!
